Angel Pendleton Nguyen is the Director of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Investigations in the Financial Intelligence Unit at American Express. Ms. Nguyen leads the AML Investigations team within the Financial Intelligence Unit; her team is responsible for defining best practices for and conducting investigations into money laundering, terrorist financing, and other unlawful activity and works closely with law enforcement. The AML Investigations team also participates in the development and implementation of surveillance rules to detect suspicious activity. Prior to joining American Express in January 2008, Ms. Nguyen spent six and a half years at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney in the Trial Division. During her time there, she investigated and prosecuted a broad variety of cases, including homicides, robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies, assaults, sex crimes, child pornography, and domestic violence. Ms. Nguyen joined the District Attorney’s Office Sex Crimes Unit in 2006, and was chosen to be a charter member of Major Case Section of the Identity Theft Unit in 2007, where she was responsible for long-term, proactive investigations into identity theft, cybercrime, and related matters. Currently she serves as a co-chair of the Pro Bono Committee at American Express. Ms. Nguyen received a B.A., with honors, from the University of Miami and a J.D., with a certificate in Environmental Law, from Pace University School of Law. During law school, she received the Adolf Homburger Humanitarian Award for her work in the public interest.
