Andy received an A.B. in economics from Georgetown University in 1969 and his J.D. from New York University Law School in 1972. He began his law career in 1972 as a corporate attorney at Battle & Fowler (now part of Paul, Hastings) in New York City. In 1979, he joined Reynolds Metals Company (now part of Alcoa) in Richmond, Virginia, as an attorney responsible for corporate, securities and acquisition matters.  He also served as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force.

In 1982, Andy joined Burroughs Corporation (now Unisys) as an Associate General Counsel and was elected Vice President and General Counsel in 1988.

In 1991, he became Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Colgate-Palmolive Company.

Andy has been continuously active in professional, educational and charitable organizations. Andy is a Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.  He is a member and former Chairman of the Committee of Corporate General Counsel, American Bar Association.  He has also been a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Substance Abuse and the former Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board and Director of the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, from which he received its award for outstanding service in providing legal services to the poor. Andy is a former director of Lawyers Alliance for New York, a former trustee of The O’Neal School and a former director of Just Say No International.  He has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Georgetown University Law Center Corporate Counsel Institute, the Dean’s Advisory Board of Georgetown College and the Steering Committee on Commerce and Industry of the New York State Bar Association.  He is also a member of the Association of Corporate Counsel, being a former director of its New York Chapter, the former President of its Michigan Chapter and the former Chair of its National Pro Bono Committee. He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a member of the American Law Institute.  Andy also serves on the Board of Editors of The M&A Lawyer and The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel and has been a speaker at numerous seminars and conferences.

Andy is admitted to practice law in New York, Virginia, Michigan and Pennsylvania, as well as various Federal courts.
