Allison Beck was named Deputy Director for National and International Programs at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) by Director George Cohen on March 2, 2010.
Allison has had a long career in the field of labor-management relations.  She recently retired as a thirty-year member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO (IAM), where she held the position of General Counsel for twenty years and Associate General Counsel for ten years before that. In these positions, Allison supervised the legal affairs of a large, international union, became well-versed in all aspects of labor and employment law, and litigated cases in federal court and before government labor agencies. She also assisted the IAM with legal issues relating to union administration, and helped develop bargaining initiatives and strategies with major IAM employers.
Prior to joining the IAM, Allison served as a federal appeals court attorney with the National Labor Relations Board and a legislative aide on employment issues to the late Senator Alan Cranston (D-CA) and the Senate Labor Committee. She graduated, cum laude, from Goucher College, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She completed her law studies at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America, where she was a member of the law review and the award-winning moot court team. During her career, Allison has served on the boards of a number of non-profit organizations, and has been a frequent speaker at labor- management, American Bar Association, and other conferences and meetings.
