Mr. Sternstein is the Assistant Division Chair on Intellectual Property and head of IP Litigation at Lathrop & Gage LLC.  Mr. Sternstein has 40 years experience in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets litigation; counseling; and licensing, and has tried IP cases before the International Trade Commission and in federal courts across the country, including one case in which he presented before the jury and obtained a then record-setting damages award of more than $100 million. He also has argued before state and federal courts of appeal, including the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Mr. Sternstein chaired the lawyers’ committee responsible for drafting the local patent rules enacted by the Northern District of Illinois and has acted as an expert witness and as a mediator in a variety of patent disputes.  Mr. Sternstein is also an adjunct professor at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, where he teaches patent law and patent litigation, and is the Director of the university’s IP and Entrepreneurship Clinic.  He has previously taught classes in patent law and patent litigation at the University of Illinois; St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, UK; and the University of Victoria, Canada.  Mr. Sternstein has been recognized and listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Illinois Leading Lawyer, and Illinois Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property.
