Alison A. Grounds

Troutman Sanders eMerge

Atlanta, GA, USA

Alison A. Grounds is an eDiscovery advocate who leverages legal strategy and technology to discover the facts needed to help clients win cases, settle at the right value, resolve internal investigations, comply with governmental subpoenas, and complete due diligence.  She is known for her proactive, practical, efficiency-obsessed approach to discovery.

Recognizing that most of the increased costs and risks of the discovery process come from too many disconnected stakeholders and processes, Alison founded and leads eMerge – a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm focused on providing clients with end-to-end, integrated discovery services.  eMerge’s lawyers and technologists combine legal strategy, advanced technology, and project management to manage data in legal matters.

Alison is an adjunct professor of eDiscovery and Legal Technology at Emory University School of Law, is frequent speaker and author on eDiscovery issues, and serves as a dedicated legal resource for Troutman Sanders' lawyers and clients on the intersection of discovery law and evolving technology.

In 2015, Alison was the inaugural recipient of the Monica Bay STEM Leadership Award, was recognized as ILTA’s Technology Advocacy Professional of the Year in 2012, and has been selected as a Georgia Super Lawyer for eDiscovery (2015 – 2018). Alison is an active member of Sedona Working Group 1 where she assisted with the drafting of the Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 34(b)(2) Primer, serves as a mentor to law students through the Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity, and fosters rescue dogs.
