Alexander Lazar is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins where he is a member of the firm’s Emerging Company Practice.


Mr. Lazar advises technology, internet, digital media and life sciences clients on a broad range of corporate matters from startup through IPO. Mr. Lazar's practice focuses on:

  • Early-stage company formation and strategy
  • Initial- through late-stage venture capital financings
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • IPOs and other public offerings of securities
  • Technology and brand licensing
  • Complex commercial transactions


Mr. Lazar represents startups and emerging companies in various stages of growth. Clients have included 360fly, 4Tech, Alluvium, Axoni, Excellims, Galactic Fog, GirlGaze, Hexanika, IrisVR, Landit, Lucidity Lights (Finally Bulbs), Neosync, Novomer, OnDemand Korea, Parachute Health, Portal Instruments, Propel, Rent the Runway, Reonomy, Roomi, Selerity, and Synaps Loans, among others.

Mr. Lazar regularly represents more mature companies in strategic investments and M&A transactions. Recent transactions include representing:

  • Rakuten and its affiliates in their:
    • Investments in Lyft, Pinterest, CafeX Communications, Upstart Networks, and Ahalife, among others; and
    • Acquisitions of Viki, Slice Technologies, DC Storm, Deep Forest Media, Manifest Commerce, Vibrant Data, and Nextperformance, among others
  • LogMeIn in its acquisition of LastPass
  • Boston Scientific Corporation in its acquisition of BridgePoint Medical, Inc.
  • Atrium Medical Corporation in its sale to GETINGE AB
  • Oberthur Technologies in its acquisition of More Magic Solutions
  • Fitness Connection in its sale to LNK Partners

Mr. Lazar also advises clients on complex commercial and licensing matters, including negotiating technology licenses with universities, hospitals, and other research institutions, and various licensing, development, collaboration, manufacturing, and distribution arrangements with strategic partners.

Mr. Lazar regularly speaks on legal issues facing emerging companies and technology companies and has served as a mentor and judge in various business plan and business method competitions.

Mr. Lazar previously resided in Latham's Boston office.
