Adrian D. Mebane is Deputy General Counsel and Vice President, Global Commercial & Supply Chain for The Hershey Company.  As a result of the company’s General Counsel’s retirement, Mr. Mebane began serving as interim General Counsel with formal accountability to the CEO for leading the Law, Global Government Relations and Corporate Security Departments’ operations and initiatives.  He also is responsible for addressing high-impact risks in the global ethics and compliance, regulatory, litigation and intellectual property practice areas and sets the strategic direction for the global commercial and supply chain functions within the legal organization. 

Mr. Mebane is the primary legal advisor to the Board of Directors and ensures the Board and company operate in accordance with the requirements of a U.S. publicly-traded Fortune 500 corporation.  He is a first-line trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board on a variety of multifaceted commercial, legal, regulatory and compliance matters.  Mr. Mebane also oversees and directs strategy for complex and sensitive matters before the Board.   

Prior to joining Hershey, Mr. Mebane worked for Weatherford, where he most recently was Associate General Counsel for Ethics & Compliance.  During his tenure at Weatherford, he supervised and managed the government and internal investigation into the company’s participation in the UN oil-for-food program, conduct in certain sanctioned countries and global compliance with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”).  Mr. Mebane was integral in providing strategic direction and counsel for Weatherford’s $252MM settlement with U.S. regulators.  During his tenure at Weatherford, Mr. Mebane was responsible for leading and implementing the global ethics and compliance program.

He was Counsel in the White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement Practice at the law firm of Crowell & Moring LLP in Washington, D.C. before joining Weatherford.  Mr. Mebane also served as a federal prosecutor in the Fraud Section for the Department of Justice (“DOJ”).  He is able to provide unique insight into the DOJ’s procedures related to significant investigations and inquiries involving fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, and violations of the FCPA and Internal Revenue Code.  He began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County in Chicago.

Mr. Mebane holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor degree from Howard University School of Law.  During law school, he was a legal intern in the chambers of The Honorable Eric H. Holder, former U.S. Attorney General.  Mr. Mebane is a member of the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania and Illinois State Bar Associations.
