PLI's Patent Office Exam Course (a.k.a "Patent Bar Review")

Do you have an engineering or science degree or background?
Take the Patent Office's Exam to become a Patent Agent or Attorney!

The USPTO recently announced a change to the testable materials, effective mid-August. But it's a mere change in form, not substance. As of August 16, 2018, the PTO will start testing the August 2017 version of the MPEP, and stop testing a bunch of separate memos and training least as such. All of those memos and training materials were incorporated into the new MPEP (generally in Chapter 2100), so there's no change of substance tested. Just a change in citations. Thus, there is NO new material being added to the Exam, and nothing being taken off the Exam. So, the current course is still substantively accurate for the Exam even after this change.

But the Exam will be "blacked out" (not available) August 9 through August 15, while they update the software at all of the Prometric sites. Other than that, you shouldn't let this change to the Exam affect your study plans. There is no substantive advantage to taking the Exam before OR after this change. Just know that the Exam will NOT be available August 9 through 15. (In the past, if your 90-day window to take the Exam includes those dates, they gave you an extra week at the end. It will look like you are getting a 97-day window, but the Exam won't be available for a week in the middle, so it's still 90 days where you can take the Exam, just spread over 97 days.) Still, all things being equal, it would be best to take the Exam by August 8, if you can, just to get it behind you. We generally recommend 2 months of study.

Lastly, keep in mind that we are seeing the Exam test less and less of the old (pre-AIA) law. It's now down to about 2 or 3 questions on the average Exam. We're teaching the old law still, of course, because you may need every point you can get. But we've updated our course (lectures, materials AND questions) to reflect the gradual de-emphasis of the old law.
