Lisa O. Monaco, is the acting Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General and is a member of the senior management team for the Deputy Attorney General and the Attorney General.  Ms. Monaco serves as the Deputy Attorney General's primary advisor on a broad range criminal, law enforcement, national security and civil matters and assists the Deputy Attorney General in the overall management and oversight of the operations of the Department of Justice. She previously served as Associate Deputy Attorney General for national security matters at the Department. 

From 2006 to 2008, Ms. Monaco served as the Chief of Staff to the Director of the FBI, Robert S. Mueller, III. As Chief of Staff, Ms. Monaco managed the day-to-day operations of the Director's Office and advised the Director on national security and law enforcement issues.

A former federal prosecutor and experienced Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA), Ms. Monaco served as a prosecutor on the Enron Task Force.  She was among a small group of prosecutors drawn from around the country and charged with investigating criminal violations in connection with the collapse of the Enron Corporation in 2001. She was co-lead trial counsel in the prosecution of five former executives of Enron Broadband Services, a business unit of Enron and received the Attorney General's Award for Exceptional Service, the Department of Justice's highest award, for her work as a prosecutor on the Enron Task Force.

Prior to her appointment to the Enron Task Force, she served as an AUSA for the District of Columbia where she prosecuted a range of cases from violent crimes to fraud and public corruption matters. She has tried numerous jury trials and argued appellate cases before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and D.C. Circuit. She received a Special Achievement Award every year during her tenure as an AUSA from 2001-2007.

From September 1998 to January 2001, Ms. Monaco served as Counsel to Attorney General Janet Reno, providing advice and guidance on national security, criminal enforcement, budget, and oversight issues.

From 1997 to 1998, Ms. Monaco was a Law Clerk to the Honorable Jane R. Roth, United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Ms. Monaco earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990 from Harvard University where she was awarded Magna Cum Laude honors in her field, American History and Literature. She earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1997 from the University of Chicago Law School where she was Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Law School Roundtable.
