Overview

This Briefing focuses on typical obstacles facing U.S. entrepreneurs when doing business in the EU. The speakers, experienced IP and marketing law experts in Germany and Sweden, will address mandatory requirements for branding products and product marking as well as advertising and selling online and using influencers. The speakers will:

  • Offer practical tips to minimize legal risks
  • Address the challenges faced when doing cross-border business in the EU
  • Air the Do’s and Don’ts of the European market

Faculty:

Holger Gauss (gauss@grunecker.de) is an attorney and partner at Grünecker in Munich, Germany.

  • Focus on trademarks, copyrights and unfair competition law, including substantial litigation in these fields
  • Representation of clients in all industries, including fashion, sports, the toy industry and a considerable number of Bay Area based tech companies
  • Holds the vice chair of the INTA Parallel Imports Committee and the Design Committee of the German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyrights (GRUR)

Sophia Spala (sophia.spala@setterwalls.se) is an attorney and partner at Setterwalls, one of Sweden’s largest full-service firms.

  • Co-head of the firm’s IP and marketing law practice
  • Advises local and foreign clients on legal issues relating to the commercialization of their intellectual property and other assets, including marketing and sales of products on the EU market, on a daily basis
  • Has particular experience in the technology, entertainment, media, FMCG, alcohol and tobacco sectors and extensive knowledgeable on general marketing, advertising and consumer law issues relating to e-trading
