Overview

Human Resources and Compliance occupy intersecting, potentially synergistic functional space in organizations.  But the relationship between the two disciplines is under-examined and complementary opportunities are generally unrealized.  On the one hand, compliance professionals under-utilize the power of high value HR systems to provide data-based insights into employee behavior and incentive-based opportunities to shape those behaviors.  Similarly, HR functions typically do not recognize and leverage the risk visibility and controls inherent in well-executed compliance programs.

This One-Hour Briefing seeks to bridge the HR-compliance gap by illustrating the value that best practices in each discipline hold for the counterpart.  The presenters will draw on their interdisciplinary experience as labor strategy experts, in-house counsel and executive leaders, and compliance professionals to describe how organizations can leverage HR data, processes, and management tools in order to better-understand and shape employee compliance behavior.  The presentation is intended to provide attorneys, compliance professionals, HR professionals, and business leaders with practical approaches to synchronize HR tools and processes with compliance program insights into enterprise risks and control opportunities, enabling optimized compliance performance.

Specific issues addressed will include:

  • What does a healthy relationship between the HR and compliance functions look like?
  • What HR tools, data, and processes offer particular value for compliance programs?
  • How can HR data be used to increase compliance risk detection and monitoring?
  • How can HR data and tools be leveraged to provide solutions for poor compliance performance?
  • What is the right relationship between compliance continuous improvement and HR accountability?
  • How can these techniques be applied to areas of particular concern for HR professionals?
