Overview

What is Artificial Intelligence ("AI"), and how do you address legal risks involving AI’s impact in the workplace and in making employment decisions?  Usage of AI in industry is becoming ubiquitous and poses complex legal challenges. However, barring changes in law, the current legal regimes for employment law and health and safety standards (including tort standards) control the usage of AI in the workplace and in making employment decisions. This session will provide guidance on navigating the landscape of the use of AI, and discuss practical policies a business can implement with respect to AI usage.  In the legal field, AI tools have enhanced and displaced lawyers in the area of e-discovery, NLP due diligence and more.  Huu Nguyen, Michael W. Kelly and Stephanie E. Niehaus, each of Squire Patton Boggs LLP, will provide a multi-disciplinary discussion of potential pitfalls in AI usage in the workplace and in making employment decisions, including the following topics:

  • AI’s impact on workplace privacy
  • Tort based and statutory health and safety issues
  • Displacement and anti-discrimination protections
  • Legal AI tools' impact on the law practice
