Financial and Reporting Issues for Nonprofit Organizations 2010

Nov. 23, 2010
Practising Law Institute-New York, NY

Overview

November 23, 2010, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Recently admitted NY attorneys: This program is accredited for transitional CLE credit

Why You Should Attend

In the current economy, nonprofit organizations are facing unprecedented challenges. In this environment, attorneys who either represent or work for nonprofit organizations, as well as attorneys who serve on nonprofit boards, must be aware of the unique financial and regulatory issues facing the nonprofit sector today.

Taught by an experienced panel of attorneys and accountants, Financial and Reporting Issues for Nonprofit Organizations 2010: What Attorneys Need to Know will provide an overview of, and update on, the accounting issues lawyers must understand, governmental and financial reporting concerns, internal control basics, and new areas of IRS activity.

What You Will Learn

  • IRS revised Form 990: what attorneys need to know
  • Liability of directors and officers for failure to report
  • Internal controls for nonprofit organizations: what they are,  why they matter; legal best practices
  • Fraud and other issues in the new financial environment
  • The View from the IRS:  new initiatives and areas of focus

This program is essential for attorneys representing nonprofit organizations, executive directors of nonprofit organizations and in-house legal staff, and attorneys who serve on nonprofit Boards of Directors.
