Advising Nonprofit Organizations 2010

Feb. 3, 2010
PLI New York Center-New York, NY

Overview

Recently admitted NY attorneys: This program is accredited for transitional CLE credit

Why You Should Attend

The business of running a nonprofit organization has become increasingly complex, as nonprofits are under heightened scrutiny to account for their management and fiduciary practices. Legislative and administrative changes on the federal and state level have created a series of new issues for certain types of nonprofits. In addition, the economic crisis of the recent past has increased the need for organizations and their boards to be aware of a wide variety of legal principles governing their conduct. Attorneys who advise nonprofits and their boards of directors or are contemplating board service themselves must be aware of both the legal norms governing their conduct and the public perceptions of charitable activities.

What You Will Learn

You will learn about fundamental concepts and new developments in the federal and state laws affecting nonprofits, as well as new challenges and practical solutions for overcoming those challenges.

Who Should Attend

This program is for attorneys interested in learning more about nonprofit law, as well as those who concentrate on such issues as a substantial part of their practice. The program is also valuable for in-house counsel at nonprofit organizations and attorneys who serve on boards of directors.

Special Features

Live Webcast - Simultaneous live webcast of the New York session is available for individual viewing. Webcast participants will receive streaming audio and/or video of the program, view and print the Course Handbook, and have the ability to submit questions electronically.
