Patent Bar Review

The Patent Office will start to test the last major chunk, and probably the most high-profile change resulting from the America Invents Act – the new “first inventor to file” rules – starting April 2nd. All of our future courses will, of course, include new materials, lectures and questions on the new law and rules being tested on the Exam. We are also in the process of updating the online homestudy course.

Don’t worry that any study you do before this new material is added will be a waste. The “old” (so-called “first to invent”) rules will continue to apply to applications in the pipeline…and be tested on the Exam…for at least a couple of years. So “first inventor to file” and all of the other material added to the Exam in the past year is an addition to the Exam, not a “change.”

This new material will add complexity to the Exam and of course your studying. We’re now adding an estimate of an additional 50 hours of study to the prior recommendation of 150-200 hours of preparation.

We’ll provide our takers all of the necessary supplemental materials, questions and lectures as they add to the material tested on the Exam. Don’t worry about that. That’s part of our commitment to you, our takers, to help you pass the Exam as painlessly as possible.
