The PLI's training course for patent bar is  great. It is very systematic and comprehensive training. It  is especially useful for people without any patent  experience. I would strongly recommend it to any scientist or engineer who is thinking about switching career to become  a patent agent. One of the advantages is that it has a lot of AIA practice questions; it offers good  amount of practice with the new law, which not only helped me with AIA questions during the exam but also built my confidence during the study. Another thing I like very much  is that the previous exams have been updated to reflect the  new law; it saves a lot of time from looking up the old and new  law. John has been very helpful with some questions I had  during the study. – Quinfen Zhang, Ph.D in Chemistry. Senior Research Investigator at Icagen Inc.; passed the Exam in September 2016

  • I wish I had enough money the first time to purchase the PLI course so I would only need to take it once!!! – Monchai Chuaychoo, bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology; passed the exam in September 2016

I took the USPTO exam twice. The first time was June 19th 2016. At that time, I could not afford the PLI material so I cobbled together various internet sources and paid for a Wysebridge class around mid-April 2016 and began studying.  It was lacking AIA materials which was my downfall since I scored a 64....  I racked my brain trying to figure out what I needed to do to overcome the AIA shortcomings. I knew that I needed a reputable review course with tons of AIA questions and the only game in town was the PLI class....  I recall emailing John White and other PLI staffers a lot...asking questions.  I’m sure they got tired of seeing my emails.  I was not scoring that well in the post-course exams for whatever reasons. I had to make an adjustment on those missed concepts. I redid those exams/homework twice and also the old 2002 and 2003 exams as well.  Finally, I was scoring over 75%.  I felt pretty confident before going in to take my exam which I didn’t have the same feeling the first time.   Overall, I was satisfied with the PLI course and the staff’s attentiveness to help me achieve my goal of passing the exam. I wish I had enough money the first time to purchase the PLI course so I would only need to take it once!!! – Monchai Chuaychoo, bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology; passed the exam in September 2016

“As far as the course goes, I could not have been happier. The lectures were clear and really emphasized the most important parts of the test. A few of the questions on the actual PTO exam seemed like they were right out of the PLI practice questions. I was able to complete the course in five weeks while finishing law school, and it may have helped that I have been clerking in a patent law firm for the last year, but the clarity of the materials and lectures definitely made the difference in me passing my first time. I will always be grateful to Mr. White, Mr. Quinn, Mr. Dighton, and all of PLI!” – Steven Wolfe, Gonzaga University School of Law; passed the Exam June 2016

  • "This program is so much more than just rehearsing 10 year-old exam questions; it puts sections of the MPEP into context, introduces current materials, provides questions based on newer material, and gives practical strategies for exam day." – Sherry-Brett Majors, Catholic University School of Law; passed the exam in May 2016

"I credit PLI with my success on the Patent Exam.  They distill the MPEP into coherent and discrete sections, and provide helpful mnemonics that will replay in your head for years.  I was at a conference with patent attorneys and IP specialists when a featured speaker mentioned that he still hears John White's voice when he thinks of this section of the MPEP.  Most of the room chuckled, knowingly.  At that moment I realized how strong this program is, because I was sitting in a room full of patent professionals who had gone through PLI's program, passed, and still talked about the lectures with fondness. This program is so much more than just rehearsing 10 year-old exam questions; it puts sections of the MPEP into context, introduces current materials, provides questions based on newer material, and gives practical strategies for exam day.  Further, PLI really does stay with you until you pass.  I appreciated their updates on changes to the MPEP, and rapid response to my numerous questions." – Sherry-Brett Majors, Catholic University School of Law; passed the exam in May 2016

  • "I do not believe that I could have passed without the help of PLI and I am thankful that I used PLI." – Daniel Latimer, Pepperdine School of Law; passed March 2016

"PLI is one of the best exam review programs I have taken and I have taken quite a few from high school through law school. PLI breaks everything down and makes the subject matter that can be relatively complex, quite simple. Between the materials, videos, practice problems, and even direct email support, you have everything you could think of at your disposal. For me, the most helpful part was Patware that had hundreds of questions, most of which are not available via other sources. You can take practice exams as many times as you want, and thorough answers are given that explain each question and answer choice. Patware also provides live simulated test conditions and really gets you both mentally and physically prepared for the actual exam. PLI was also generous enough to extend my online access so that I could manage finals during my last year in law school and then concentrate on the patent registration exam. I do not believe that I could have passed without the help of PLI and I am thankful that I used PLI." – Daniel Latimer, Pepperdine School of Law; passed March 2016

  • “ I would recommend PLI's program to anyone who does not have the luxury of retaking the exam and wants to ensure the best possible results on their first try.” – Paul Smelcer, Washington University School of Law, passed March 2016

“The Patent Bar Review program was a crucial resource for me while preparing for the exam.  I had taken the exam once prior to law school (with little guidance other than the MPEP itself) and was not successful.  Studying again for the test, this time during law school and with the help of PLI, I was able to pass the exam on the first try.  I attended the PLI Live Program and also utilized all of the computer-based resources.  PLI is a huge time-saver - the program directs you where you need to focus the most time and energy, and helps develop your memorization of the most critical concepts through subtle repetition and emphasis through the lectures and written materials.  I would recommend PLI's program to anyone who does not have the luxury of retaking the exam and wants to ensure the best possible results on their first try.” – Paul Smelcer, Washington University School of Law, passed March 2016

“I felt that PLI really provided me with all the tools that I needed to pass the exam. I paid for one other "bargain" course prior to enrolling in PLI, and felt overwhelmed, as it often merely recited the MPEP word for word. At the PLI live lecture, speakers John White and Gene Quinn did an excellent job at making the material understandable, and at emphasizing what was important without getting lost in the minutiae. I also thought that the experience I gained in completing the exams and quizzes in Patware was absolutely invaluable to my preparation. “ – Sean L. Africk, Esq.; passed October 2015

  • “[…T]he PLI course was the essential study resource and framework to understanding key sections of the MPEP.” – Ranjini Chatterjee, co-founder and Chief Science Officer, Aligna Technologies, Inc.; passed the exam in October 2015.

“As a scientist without a law school foundation preparing for the patent bar exam, the PLI course was the essential study resource and framework to understanding key sections of the MPEP. The PLI course provided comprehensive explanations of key sections of the MPEP and pointed to MPEP chapters that were key testable material.  The PLI course questions, online practice quizzes and exams were a critical resource to becoming familiar with the difficulty level of exam questions. The answers provided were both excellent explanations of rationale and nuances, and study material by themselves.  The AIA supplements were more comprehensive than what was provided on the PTO website.” – Ranjini Chatterjee, co-founder and Chief Science Officer, Aligna Technologies, Inc.; passed the exam in October 2015.

  • “I have been working through the course for the last 2 1/2 months, and today I received a preliminary passing grade on the exam!” – Jimmy Heath, B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Texas A&M University; passed October 2015

“On July 29, 2015, after studying free and cheap materials on my own for 3 months to prepare for the USPTO Registration Exam, I failed the exam miserably. After recovering from that blow, I purchased the PLI course. I have been working through the course for the last 2 1/2 months, and today I received a preliminary passing grade on the exam! …. After only a couple of weeks of the PLI course, I went back to Prometric to review my [first] exam. While reviewing the exam, I tried answering the questions I missed without referring to the explanations, and I was able to answer enough of those missed items to have passed the exam. That was VERY encouraging. Nonetheless, I worked through all the course materials, and continued to pick up new understanding even the day before my second exam.  It’s not the way I would suggest to anyone else to do it, but the route I took might have been as direct as possible for me considering my habits and level of dedication to raw study….  Thanks again for designing and producing the PLI course.” – Jimmy Heath, B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Texas A&M University; passed October 2015

  • “I was thrilled to pass the patent bar on my first try. The patent course from PLI was a huge factor. My strategy was pretty simple. I just did what was recommended by the course! That would also be my advice to other people.” – Michael Campos, PhD.

“Thanks!  I was thrilled to pass the patent bar on my first try.  The patent course from PLI was a huge factor.  My strategy was pretty simple.  I just did what was recommended by the course!  That would also be my advice to other people.  I did the whole course online since I landed a new job in the middle of my preparation and I could not take the time off for the live course.  All in all it was about 10 weeks from the time that I ordered the course materials to the time that I passed my exam.  Without the course it would have taken me a lot longer, and frankly, I'm sure I would have failed on my first attempt.  I might have even given up on trying to become a patent agent once I learned that the exam has more than one question about when it is not appropriate to send something to the USPTO by fax!  What an insane test.  But taking the PLI course, I came to understand that the USPTO just wants to make sure that new patent agents know where to find all of the information that they need so that they can be less annoying when we start our patent agent careers.  Overall, I found the course a perfect blend of getting me ready for the exam and giving me practical advice on how to deal with the USPTO as a patent agent who seems to know what he's doing. ” – Michael Campos, PhD.

I recognized a lot of the questions on the exam, and was able to make good, educated guesses for those questions which left me a little stumped.  I believe the course goes above and beyond what is needed to pass the exam, and also gives those of us who have no IP experience a good working knowledge to begin with.  I look forward to further developing my patent prosecution and litigation skills through further coursework with PLI.” – Charisse Hines, Esq.; passed June 2015

“When I first started learning the Patent Bar materials, I thought the detail and complexity was completely overwhelming. However, I was very impressed with Gene and John’s ability in the videos to focus on the important materials and provide context with anecdotes from their years of practice. "Taking the Home-study PLI Patent Bar Review course is the secret to passing the patent bar exam! ….[At first,] I went with a cheaper course, but suffered for my poor decision and did not pass the patent bar the first time. I realized then that I should have just enrolled in the PLI course to begin with. The lecture videos highlighting the MPEP chapters were exactly what I needed to pass the patent bar. On top of that, PLI provides more than enough practice questions and past exams for review. Don't think twice and enroll in the course now!" – Constance (“Connie”) Liu; Santa Clara University School of Law; passed June 2015

“I took the PLI home-study course to prepare for the patent bar and passed on the first try! I found the videos, written materials, and PATWARE® practice exam software extremely helpful and well-suited for those who are looking for a prep course they can take while working full-time. I watched the videos and looked over the material summaries first. Then I studied the more detailed materials and actually read portions of the MPEP as suggested by the course. Finally, I spent the last couple of weeks before the exam doing as many practice questions as I could under exam conditions, and reviewing the answer explanations. That might not be everyone’s recipe for success, but it was mine. None of it would have been possible, however, without the PLI course. Thank you PLI!” – Paul J. Linden, Wood, Herron & Evans, LLP; passed June 2015

  • When I first decided to take the USPTO exam, I enrolled in a less expensive course than PLI. I followed the course’s guidelines but it wasn’t enough to help me pass the exam. Then, my husband convinced me to take the PLI course and give the exam another try. This time also I followed the PLI’s online course’s guidelines but with a different result; I passed! – Tina Alikahi; passed May 2015

“When I first decided to take the USPTO exam, I enrolled in a less expensive course than PLI. I followed the course’s guidelines but it wasn’t enough to help me pass the exam. Then, my husband convinced me to take the PLI course and give the exam another try. This time also I followed the PLI’s online course’s guidelines but with a different result; I passed! It was simple: read the text, listen to the lectures, and take and retake the sample exams until you ace them. The sample question bank was extensive enough to boost my confidence and prepare me for the exam. Especially that for each question there was an explanation for the answer, so I wasn’t just memorizing the answer but learning the laws/rules. On the exam day, I had more than an hour extra time for each session to review the questions I was doubtful about and go through MPEP. I found the course amazingly helpful.” – Tina Alikahi; passed May 2015

  • My recent passage of the USPTO Patent Exam on the first try would not have been possible without the PLI Patent Office Exam Course... – Andrea Wheeler, Patent Agent, Cypress Semiconductor Corporation; passed April 2015

“My recent passage of the USPTO Patent Exam on the first try would not have been possible without the PLI Patent Office Exam Course. In particular, the hundreds of practice questions enabled me to prep thoroughly for the material covered on the exam and the strategies needed to respond quickly and accurately to the questions. • [...] What was best about Patware® was the explanations for each answer during review. I couldn’t have done it without that. Thanks so much for this quality course! – Iris Kim; passed April 2015

“The PLI course was exactly what I needed to study for the patent bar -- everything I needed was included. The lectures alone would have been great, but the written materials and the reminders from John White to both read the material and listen to the lecture were really helpful. Best of all was Patware®, though. Thanks to Patware® the stress of the actual exam was so much lower than it would’ve been if I hadn’t been answering questions for days on end using Patware®. To have an actual simulation of the exam itself was an incredible resource. What was best about Patware® was the explanations for each answer during review. I couldn’t have done it without that. Thanks so much for this quality course!” – Iris Kim; passed April 2015

  • [...] I couldn’t have done it without PLI. Thanks again John, Gene, and the PLI team for putting together such a great program! – Darcy W. Greep; R&D Engineer/Patent Agent, Megadyne; passed March 2015

“I first learned about the MPEP exam, and that as an Engineer I could become a Patent Agent, from a PLI direct mailer. After researching all my preparation options and learning more about the intensity and breadth of the test, I returned to PLI. I was cautious and a little skeptical as I started the program, but John and Gene were re-assuring, and obviously so well versed in the requirements and knowledge to pass that I felt building confidence in what I was learning. The time required to become proficient was a little overwhelming at first, but as I tracked my progress, I actually looked forward to my studies and increasing in understanding. This PLI course helped me go from a rudimentary understanding of patents to passing the MPEP Exam. Patware® was invaluable in my preparation, allowing me to practice timing and look-up skills, and in helping me with context familiarity so I could move through questions without delay. I couldn’t have done it without PLI. Thanks again John, Gene, and the PLI team for putting together such a great program!” – Darcy W. Greep; R&D Engineer/Patent Agent, Megadyne; passed March 2015

“PLI’s patent bar review course helped me a great deal in preparing for the registration exam. The lectures and study materials captured the most important concepts to know/remember, which was really useful considering the amount of material that is tested on the exam. The simulated tests in Patware® were crucial to learning time management and MPEP-lookup for the real exam. "I just wanted to say thank you very much for helping me pass the Patent Bar today. I really felt that you and Gene actually cared about the material and I think this made a difference in the lectures and study materials - and allowed me to make a greater connection with the material. For some reason, I started to hear Gene’s voice reading the questions and answers during the exam - with an especially heightened tone around what I perceived to be poor answer choices. Maybe there is something to that, who knows. I really can’t thank you enough.” – Daniel Velez, William and Mary School of Law; passed February 2015

  • [...] In contrast, PLI kept me very up-to-date with supplemental materials, updated videos, and the option for correspondence with John White and others. Another long story short, I passed this time around. Not only did I pass, but I am glad that I failed the first time around; the only reason I got so close to passing in the first place was because I had memorized so many questions. Substantively, I knew nothing. Now though, I feel much more comfortable with the patent prosecution process and the work I do for my internship. – Benjamin Parker; Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark School of Law; passed February 2015

“Having taken and failed the patent bar once before, I have had this thing lingering over me for some time. In June 2013, I bought a bargain course…thinking that since I am a bright guy who has tested well since I was little, I could figure out whatever I needed to on my own with a little guidance here and there from the cheapest course I could find. Long story short, I failed by one question. It was rough for me, and I felt like I wasted 3 months of my life and $1000 ($500 for the course and roughly $500 for test registration fees). After that, I decided after my first year of law school that paying a little bit more of a premium for the best course I could find was worth it. PLI is most certainly the gold standard for patent bar test prep. My other course never so much as mentioned the AIA…and that was the least of its problems. In contrast, PLI kept me very up-to-date with supplemental materials, updated videos, and the option for correspondence with John White and others. Another long story short, I passed this time around. Not only did I pass, but I am glad that I failed the first time around; the only reason I got so close to passing in the first place was because I had memorized so many questions. The instructors were excellent in that they could clearly communicate and explain the topics required for the patent bar exam. The course topics presented were well organized and associated so that one could understand the bigger picture. I took the home-study method where it was permitted to send the question through the internet. My questions were always answered timely. I give the course both thumbs up!” – Valerie D. • I could not have passed without the PLI program! The old advice to simply study the USPTO released exams does not work anymore... – Troy Hammon, Esq. USAF JAG; passed December 2014

“I could not have passed without the PLI program! The old advice to simply study the USPTO released exams does not work anymore. Since it has been so long since an exam has been released, and the law has changed so drastically, the old exams might, at best, cover half of the material needed to pass. Fortunately, there is PLI and the PatWare® software. The program clearly covers what you need to know to pass and the PatWare® questions allow you to translate the material from knowledge to application. It still is not easy and took a lot of work, but I think it would be virtually impossible without PLI, unless you want to memorize all 3,000+ pages of the MPEP!” – Troy Hammon, Esq. USAF JAG; passed December 2014

  • I began the online course and also attended the live 'boot camp' course. Both the on-line lectures and the class presentations were excellent...[T]he exam is moving on, and only PLI seems to be on top of what will be coming out next. – Guy Letourneau PE, Mechanical Engineer, Vytis, Ltd.; passed October 2014

“I began the online course and also attended the live'boot camp'course. Both the on-line lectures and the class presentations were excellent. The instructors are able to illustrate dry and sometimes counterintuitive material in a memorable way which, if an exam taker can narrow down to two plausible choices, recollection of a key phrase from a lecture will lead to the correct choice. After the live course, the instructors are readily available by e-mail, are always encouraging, and will answer questions with the detail you need to help clear up confusion in a question. The Patware® software included in the course can be tuned to focus on one’s weaker areas in addition to developing stamina and pacing for the exam…. The course and instructors are staying current with AIA and other changes in law and how these are presented in new problems being introduced in the exam ….[T]he exam is moving on, and only PLI seems to be on top of what will be coming out next.” – Guy Letourneau PE, Mechanical Engineer, Vytis, Ltd.; passed October 2014

"The PLI Patent Bar Review course was extremely helpful in preparing for the patent bar. Prior to taking the course, I had some basic knowledge of the patent system and novelty and obviousness. However, the PLI course definitely took my knowledge to the next level and beyond. The intensive five day program covered a wide breadth of topics in enough detail to provide a strong foundation. The instructors were knowledgeable and witty, making the long days seem a little shorter. After taking the PLI course and studying for another two months, I passed the patent bar! Thank you PLI! "I studied for the patent bar exam through PLI for just under three months, while also having a full-time job. If you stick with it, PLI’s structured home-study course syllabus is doable and their regularly assigned tests of my knowledge of the topics (along with the detailed reviews from the instructors) helped tremendously. I have since taken and passed the patent bar exam, but I still regularly refer to the detailed course materials for guidance as I embark on my career as a patent attorney. This investment was well worth it. Many thanks for all the help!" – Pervin R. Taleyarkhan, J.D., Purdue Research Foundation, Office of Technology Commercialization; passed February 2014

"I wanted to let you know that I passed the exam last Saturday on my first attempt. I really wanted to thank you for answering my questions diligently and for the style of the lectures. I appreciated the subtle humour and the reassurance in John’s delivery... I have nothing but positive comments about the entire PLI experience. Initially I kicked myself for studying during such a transformative time for patent law (introduction of the AIA), but I felt I was well prepared for any question that I may have faced and in retrospect am glad that I learned it along with the old law, as I felt this helped align the changes better in my own understanding." – Mark Drew, Ph.D; passed February 2014

"I previously studied with [a different course] and found their organization and content to be... lacking. I had the opportunity to also study with PLI and found the difference to be night and day. Where the organization was forced, PLI organized the material in a logical and procedural manner that helped promote integration of the material into my practice while I was learning and to quickly create a complete view of the patent law landscape as well as how to find the information on test day if I couldn’t remember it. Where the [other course’s] content was simply presented without any relation to the exam, PLI provided emphasis when content was likely to be tested and gave excellent examples for how it would be tested. Most of all I was impressed by the ability of Mr. White and Mr. Quinn to keep me engaged in their lectures. The quality of the presentation of the information is by far what sets PLI apart. Both the lectures and the handout material were easy to follow and study. Overall, I found the experience to be as neatly presented and organized... and extremely complete in the information that was covered. I highly recommend PLI." – Steve Allhoff, Esq., Wilson Ham and Holman, LLP; passed January 2014

“I want to offer a sincere thank you to John White and Gene Quinn for a well-organized, extremely helpful review course. Like Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ‘Use the Force, Luke,’ I could almost hear their voices as I was taking the exam. What do you need to get a filing date? I could almost hear John say, ‘Spec, claim, drawing.’ Acceptable multiple dependent claim language? I could almost hear Gene imploring me to look at 608.01(n). Thanks to the PLI course, I was able to pass the exam the first time, making it well worth the investment!” – Andrew Harrington, Lewis & Clark Law School; passed November 2013

"PLI is a mandatory purchase to pass the Patent Bar because the test has changed and released tests are no longer helpful. I tried passing the Patent Bar on my own twice. Believe me, I tried everything. I did every released test several times, tracking my progress, and studying the law in depth as well. I got the same score twice: 62. I took PLI and passed on my next attempt. This test is harder than anything you’ve ever taken. There is no way to overstate its difficulty. The Patent Bar is a different animal, no matter how smart you are. If you want to pass, you need PLI. It’s that simple." – James Cole; Passed November 2013.

"I took the patent bar review course this September and passed the exam on the first try. I am truly grateful to John and Gene and the team who put together the study materials and Patware®. The PBR provided me much information and preparation I needed... The program as a whole was a super preparation course, probably the best I have ever taken to date (including BarBri and Kaplan). I wholeheartedly recommend this course for anyone who plans to take the patent bar exam. If you can follow the guidance of John and Gene and put the time and effort for it, you will pass the exam. It is an extremely difficult exam, I must admit, and one would be wise to take PBR if he is serious about passing it.” – TaeRa Franklin; passed September 2013

“I passed the patent bar on my first try in July 2013 following the AIA changes to the examination. The PLI course was key to my passing the bar following the changes. I work as a litigator and had a two-month old baby at the time. The best resource made available through PLI was John White. If I had a question regarding the AIA updates to the exam, I would send an email and Mr. White quickly would clear up any confusion. “The PLI course was invaluable in my preparation to pass the patent bar. A few factors that really contributed to my passing the test were the Prime questions, the test-condition practice in PatWare®, and (especially) the distillation of the AIA materials. The predictions of content and number of AIA questions were very accurate and definitely contributed to my passing score. PLI was able to highlight the areas likely to be tested, and their prediction was accurate. My advice to everyone that is planning to take the test is to use the PLI program.” – Nathan Camuti, Chapman University School of Law; passed January 2013

  • I thought I should let you know I passed the exam (on the first attempt!) this week. I’m so glad I took your course to prepare. – James Whittle, Ph.D. in Biology, postdoctoral fellow; passed March 2013

“I thought I should let you know I passed the exam (on the first attempt!) this week. I’m so glad I took your course to prepare. Your advice on what to study seemed spot-on, and would have been totally non-obvious without your guidance. Just as advised, Appeals and PCT were tested heavily, much more than on the 2002/2003 sample exams. I was surprised by how much the AIA supplement on reexamination was tested. There were many questions on inter partes review and post-grant review, which required a detailed understanding of the rules. Knowing that supplemental reexam is the go-to cure for inequitable conduct was worth several points. I was fortunate to have had the chance to talk over reexam/reissue with you by phone (Thanks!) and to have re-read the supplement two-days before the exam. So in general all your advice in the course is right on. Future students should be informed to take those supplements seriously. I think I probably matched you 100-150 hour advice, and in retrospect I feel it was necessary to do that much studying to have a chance. I should say, I had to pay out-of-pocket for your course -- no firm to pay my fees -- but I think it was worth every penny.” – James Whittle, Ph.D. in Biology, postdoctoral fellow; passed March 2013

All of the new information of the test, for AIA phase 2, was in the summary information and essentially in the Patware® questions also! On my test, there were probably 8 questions on post grant and inter partes appeals, but nothing caught me off guard!” – Michael Templeton; Michigan State University College of Law; homestudy course; passed February 2013

“The PLI Patent Bar Review Course was instrumental in my passing the Patent Bar Exam on my first go-around. The course not only provides excellent practice test software—PatWare®—but the lectures help you understand what is tested, how it’s tested, and what the test is really looking for. Without a course to give this guidance, it would be close to a shot in the dark, particularly with the newly tested materials (i.e., AIA implementation) that PLI was great at predicting and preparing me for. I highly recommend the PLI Patent Bar Review Course to anyone considering taking the Patent Bar Exam.” – Jonathan Kennedy, Esq.; McKee, Voorhees & Sease, PLC; homestudy; passed February 2013

“The PLI Prep Course was outstanding, and I think I would have stumbled badly without it. I actually took and taught a professional certification exam prep course earlier in my career in the management area, and it can’t hold a candle to this PLI course. The Patware® sample questions were particularly relevant. The email Q&A responses were also prompt and valuable. In fact, the course contains so much material that I wasn’t able to cover it all, yet still managed to pass the exam. Thanks for the assistance.” – Scott Serich, Concord Law School; home study course; passed January, 2013

"I’m a scientist, not a lawyer, and so I feel I was at a disadvantage from the start as I didn’t ‘think lawyerly.’ I used the PBR Home Course as my primary study tool. The instruction was well presented and interesting. The course and Patware® allowed me the training and skills I needed to get a first time pass. I highly recommend it; it’s an education, not just a test taking course. Thanks so much!" – Ed Leber; homestudy course; passed December 2012

  • Patware® was a great tool for focusing on topics where I was not scoring in my desired range. – Reza Sarbakhsh, Esq.; Kellner Herlihy Getty & Friedman, LLP; passed July 2012

“When I sat at a Prometric computer to take the patent bar, I was ready and calm. I wasn’t fazed by the picture of a patient with his guts hanging out, displayed on the computer next to my test station, where a test taker was undoubtedly sitting for some sort of medical exam. Taking the online course was absolutely essential. The lectures painted a vivid picture of the patent prosecution process and the various tracks that an application can take; and the questions that the exam can ask about all that goes on in the process. John’s lectures helped me develop an instinct for what a right answer on the exam would look like, and he pointed out the instances where a rule is counterintuitive. John made the material easier to grasp, and was even humorous…. His recommendations as to the number of hours to study and the pace were spot on. Patware® was a great tool for focusing on topics where I was not scoring in my desired range. Once my scores on practice questions improved, Patware® became a confidence booster. Finally, towards the end of my studies, John was very helpful (and quick) in responding to my emails…about specific problems I had when studying for the exam. In the end, it was almost inevitable that I would pass.” – Reza Sarbakhsh, Esq.; Kellner Herlihy Getty & Friedman, LLP; passed July 2012

However, the post-course material (i.e. sample questions software, lecture review etc.) is what makes this course worth its weight in gold. The instructors were timely in answering e-mailed questions, which helps during that last week of review. If you want to pass the patent bar the first time, which I hope you do, don’t look any further.” – Corporate Attorney; New York course 2011

“I wanted to let you know that I passed the Patent Bar today. Thanks for all of your assistance and support! I would recommend PLI to future applicants! I found that John White’s lectures gave me a solid foundation and understanding of the subject matter. As an attorney engaged in the full-time practice of law, it was necessary for me to study "part-time" at home on evenings and weekends. This course gave me the flexibility to do that. On several occasions, I emailed John White with questions relative to the Patent exam and Patent application process in general. He consistently replied in a prompt manner and was able to answer all of my questions.” – Lisa R. Oropollo, 2011

  • The PLI Patent Bar Review course and John White were nothing short of amazing. – Chicago Spring course 2009

"The PLI Patent Bar Review course and John White were nothing short of amazing. I could never have passed without both. I also took the PRG (Kayton) course which I found to be much less useful and did not yield successful results on the exam. I found the PLI course to be so much more focused on what was needed to pass the exam. The 40 hours of John White on CD proved invaluable to my study, as did Patware®. I listened to him in my car on long road trips, in addition to attending the live class. Delightfully, John provided timely answers to my detailed questions via email. As Gene says, John White truly is the Rock Star of Patent Law. I look forward to taking additional courses from PLI and John in the future as I embark on my IP career." – Chicago Spring course 2009

  • Prior to enrolling in the course, I contemplated the possibility that my experience as a Scientific Advisor at a top technology law firm would suffice to guide me through the exam. – Craig Kenesky, PhD, Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati; New York summer 2009 course

"Prior to enrolling in the course, I contemplated the possibility that my experience as a Scientific Advisor at a top technology law firm would suffice to guide me through the exam. I quickly ascertained from the first morning of lectures that the formal understanding of the MPEP was in fact a very different skill set than the actual practice of patent prosecution. I conclude that any length or level of patent law practice is not a substitute for the PLI patent bar review course, and even experienced practitioners would be wise to participate." – Craig Kenesky, PhD, Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati; New York summer 2009 course

"I want to thank you very much for both the PLI course and your support in answering my questions. I passed the patent exam on my first try last Friday. I could not have been more satisfied with the course and the preparation and confidence it gave me. Not only was it thorough, but you somehow managed to make it as much of a positive, upbeat experience as possible. As hard as it was to learn the material, take practice exams, and sit through the real exam, I will not look back on the ordeal as a traumatic experience as much as a challenge that both improved me as a student, lawyer, and test-taker. Two of my friends both took the course and passed on their first try as well. I am really impressed with the quality of the preparation we received!" – Jessica Zafont, Brooklyn Law School; homestudy course 2008-2009

  • I wanted to take this opportunity to thank PLI...for their excellent help with my preparation for the patent bar exam. – Thomas Geroulo, Esq., Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP; homestudy course 2008/2009

"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank PLI...for their excellent help with my preparation for the patent bar exam. I took and passed the exam yesterday after doing the homestudy course over the past six months at home during my spare time while continuing to practice as an attorney full time. I felt very confident on the exam and recognized a solid 20-25 questions which were exact repeats from the study materials as well as another 20-25 which were obvious alterations of prior questions I had seen. I was extremely impressed with this preparation material as it was exactly as advertised and lead to a successful result. Thank you very much and I will certainly recommend this to anyone in the field. Keep up the good work" – Thomas Geroulo, Esq., Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP; homestudy course 2008/2009

  • I am a law student who took the Patent Bar Exam (PBE) at the end of my second year of law school. – William Wong, UCLA School of Law; NY spring course 2008

"I am a law student who took the Patent Bar Exam (PBE) at the end of my second year of law school. I took the PLI Patent Bar Review live course the summer before and I’m happy to report that I passed the PBE on my first try!!! I didn’t think I would pass because I’ve heard so much about the approximately 50% pass rate on the PBE. But the key is focused preparation, which is exactly what the PLI course provides by emphasizing the material (i.e. MPEP 700, 2100, 1800) that the PBE likes to frequently tests. As a busy law student, there’s simply no way I can humanly find the time to read, outline, comprehend the 3000-page+ MPEP on my own!" – William Wong, UCLA School of Law; NY spring course 2008

This caused me great concern, but having all of the lectures on CD let me get right back up to speed. "I passed the Patent Bar today (first try) and it’s without a doubt thanks to the excellent materials from PLI. I’ve been an engineer for quite a while now and I wasn’t sure I could get a handle on 3000+ pages of legal mumbo-jumbo (called the MPEP...). I took the home-study course (2008) and it simply drilled all the information I needed into my brain: most test questions were very similar to the questions I practiced. All the key phrases (including the favorite PTO ways to trick test-takers) become clear and you will quickly zero in on the right answer. Take no short-cuts and follow the course exactly as intended. Once you’re done with the study guide, use the software to practice questions and exams again and again until you have seen every question there is and score, say, 96% on the old exams. Trust the course, trust PLI and you will pass." – Otto Steinbusch; homestudy course 2008

I couldn’t pass the exam without taking the PLI class. I was planning to study on my own, but I was so frustrated since I was an engineer with no training in law at all, and I felt great difficulty in preparing for the exam. The PLI class greatly helped me to understand the key points and guided me step by step to pass the exam. I would like to especially thank you for your quick and detailed responses to my questions! I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your help and I would highly recommend the PLI class to anyone I know." – Yi Sun Wilkinson, Ph.D. in Engineering and instructor in Electrical Engineering at Northwestern Polytechnic University; homestudy course 2008

  • The PLI course is well tailored to the task of passing the patent bar. – Robert Penchuk, Suffolk University Law School; Boston course summer 2008

"The PLI course is well tailored to the task of passing the patent bar. I took the PRG home study course and failed, then subsequently passed with the PLI course. Let’s not kid ourselves. Becoming a proficient patent prosecutor is an art form that develops over many years. The PRG course is not commensurate in scope with the task of passing the bar. It attempts to do what can only realistically be done with years of practice. By overloading the student with a ridiculous amount of extraneous detail you will likely not achieve either goal. You have to walk before you run! Pass the bar first with PLI." – Robert Penchuk, Suffolk University Law School; Boston course summer 2008
