WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND

One of the first things considered when creating a new entity is what this entity will be called and how it will be known.  However, there is more to consider when making the selection than coming up with a catchy name.  This program will examine the business entity and trademark laws governing the naming of entities and provide the latest information on:

  • How to select and protect the business names by which an entity will be known to the public
  • What are the rules and restrictions placed on the selection of a domain names
  • How trademark law affects the selection and protection of a name

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Attendees of this seminar will learn about the restrictions placed on legal names, assumed names and fictitious names by state business entity laws and the steps that can be taken on the business entity’s behalf to make sure it does not lose its rights to its names.  This could include having the filing office check for availability, reserving and registering the name and negatively affecting the filings that establish rights to these names.  Restrictions placed on the selection of domain names, including the uniqueness of a domain and the limited number of domains from which to choose will also be covered.

TOPICS DISCUSSED

This seminar will examine the ways trademark law affects the selection of an entity’s names, including:

  • How to select names that will be eligible for trademark protection
  • How a business entity name should not infringe on another party’s trademark
  • How to take steps to prevent others from using an entity’s name in ways that violate its trademark rights
