Overview

Why you should attend

This course provides an introduction to the basics of the pension plan investment rules of ERISA for lawyers seeking to solidify their understanding of the regulatory framework, to ensure that they have a full picture of the important issues to be addressed and to develop their analytical abilities.  The complex ERISA statutory framework is a challenge, and neither the caselaw nor the regulatory guidance is presented in a cohesive, comprehensive, gift-wrapped form for those starting out in this field.  In reality, the lore of ERISA - including the many basic interpretations and practices in the field that have developed for historical reasons - often only can be easily accessed from more senior practitioners.  This course seeks to build a fundamental, practical understanding of the important rules that govern the investment of the enormous pool of investment capital held by US private sector pension plans.  The course is designed to offer a practical guide to lawyers interested in building their level of expertise in the area.
