Bridge-the-Gap I: Ethics and Skills for Newly Admitted New York Attorneys 2014





Why you should attend

Newly admitted attorneys in New York State are required, during each of their first two years after admission to the Bar, to complete at least 16 transitional CLE credit hours in ethics and professionalism, skills, and law practice management and/or areas of professional practice.

By attending PLI’s Bridge-the-Gap I: Ethics and Skills for Newly Admitted New York Attorneys 2014, you can fulfill all of your ethics and skills MCLE requirements in New York State for one year.

At this practical program, you  will learn  what you didn’t learn in law school ( but now wish you had!)and get your questions answered by  our highly experienced faculty.  Topics to be discussed include:

  • Ethics for new lawyers
  • Clear and convincing writing
  • Negotiation skills, strategies, and styles
  • Mediation skills

( Please note that PLI’s Bridge-the-Gap I and II programs contain different subjects and may be taken in either order.  If you have already attended one of PLI’s Bridge-the-Gap I programs, in accordance with New York State MCLE Regulations, you cannot attend Bridge -the-Gap I again for MCLE credit.)

PLI Group Discounts

Cancellations

All cancellations received 3 business days prior to the program will be refunded 100%. If you do not cancel within the allotted time period, payment is due in full. You may substitute another individual to attend the program at any time.

ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALISM (3 NYMCLE Credit Hours)

8:30 How to Avoid Tripping on Ethical Pitfalls When You're Learning to Walk: Ethics for New Lawyers (There will be one 10-minute break)

Using a series of vignettes, this panel will review everyday ethics issues that arise in law practice, including: handling inadvertently produced documents; the attorney-client privilege; the duty of confidentiality; conflicts of interest; candor to the tribunal; the “no-contact” rule; attorney advertising; use of social media; unauthorized practice of law; who is the client; escrow accounts

Special Note: In New York, newly admitted attorneys may receive CLE credit only for attendance at "transitional" programs during their first two years of admission to the Bar. Non-traditional course formats such as on-demand web programs or recorded items, are not acceptable for CLE credit. Experienced attorneys may choose to attend and receive CLE credit for either a transitional course or for one geared to experienced attorneys.  All product types, including on-demand web programs and recorded items, are approved for experienced attorneys.

Please Note: The State Bar of Arizona does not approve or accredit CLE activities for the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirement. PLI programs may qualify for credit based on the requirements outlined in the MCLE Regulations and Ariz. R. Sup. Ct. Rule 45.

If you have already received credit for attending some or the entire program, please be aware that state administrators do not permit you to accrue additional credit for repeat viewing even if an additional credit certificate is subsequently issued.

Credit will be granted only to the individual on record as the purchaser unless alternative arrangements (prearranged groupcast) are made in advance.
