Overview

As the global economy continues to present many opportunities for the legal industry, most U.S. attorneys may not yet fully appreciate and understand the international business practices required to successfully navigate cultural differences that impact business relationships and help win and retain business.

Please join James Grandolfo of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP's Hong Kong office and Alex Hao of JunHe in New York City as they discuss the cultural and legal issues U.S. attorneys may face while doing deals in Asia, including:

  • how to address FCPA, OFAC, AML and other regulatory questions in an unsophisticated environment;
  • dealing with language barriers and cultural issues when doing deals;
  • understanding key differences between the U.S. and local legal systems;
  • adapting “U.S. style” transaction documents for local use, and helping local users understand and manage those documents; and
  • dealing with differences in development and implementation of the rule of law across Asia.
