Overview

The biggest change in EU data protection law in two decades is imminent. The GDPR is set to be enacted in March 2016 and become effective 2 years later. U.S. companies should assess how the GDPR will affect their business models and data processing practices and start formulating a game plan to address the transitional steps they would need to take locally, regionally and globally to meet compliance when the GDPR comes into force.

Dyann Heward-Mills (London) and Dr. Lothar Determann (Palo Alto) of Baker & McKenzie LLP will provide an overview with focus on:

  • international applicability;
  • cross-border data transfers;
  • data protection officers;
  • data breach notifications;
  • consent; and
  • data mapping.

Dyann and Lothar will provide practical step-by-step guidance to help organizations understand the new GDPR requirements and how they apply to U.S. companies.
