Not long ago, “cyber attacks" invoked futuristic battles in a virtual universe. Today, the threats posed by cyber attacks are very real, and are wreaking havoc on companies around the world. No industry sector is immune, and cybercrime targets have broadened significantly. Media reports of the staggering number of increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks attest to this trend, with organizations such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Twitter, Apple, Facebook and even the U.S. Department of Energy having publicly announced hacking incidents in the past year.

In February, the Obama Administration signaled its grave concern about cybersecurity by issuing an Executive Order directing the development of cybersecurity standards and addressing other measures aimed at helping U.S. companies prepare to tackle cyber threats. Officials in the European Union also have issued draft proposals for cybersecurity rules.

To keep up with the rapidly evolving legal landscape in this field, companies need to be informed not only about the risks they face, but also about forthcoming legislation that could affect how they do business. A thorough understanding of this area is particularly important for companies that have not previously been in cyberattackers’ crosshairs and need to prepare strategies to confront these new and persistent threats.

The multiple challenges posed by cybersecurity issues demand an interdisciplinary approach. Please join us for a robust discussion of the future of cybersecurity with leading experts in the field including privacy lawyers, government insiders, forensic technologists and scholars.
