Overview

The practice of law has gone digital, for better or worse.  Technology can make the practice of law easier for attorneys but it also creates a new set of risks.  Fortunately, many such risks are foreseeable and avoidable.

Even though the paperless law practice is a fairly recent development for attorneys, many attorneys have already formed 'bad habits' when it comes to email, document management, and social media.  This session will identify some of the most common 'bad habits' adopted by attorneys when it comes to technology, what risks these 'bad habits' pose, and how attorneys can break such bad habits for good.

Please join Shari L. Klevens and Alanna Clair from McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP as they discuss the following topics:

  • Use of disclaimers in emails and blogs
  • Risk of an inadvertent attorney-client relationship by email
  • The inadvertent recipient or forward of email
  • How to use social media without creating ethical issues
  • Competence in technology
  • How to protect the fallout from a lost cell phone
