Bill Cavanagh specializes in corporate, partnership, private equity and international tax matters. He advises a broad array of U.S. and multinational clients on a wide variety of U.S. and cross-border tax issues. In recent years, he has worked extensively with clients in structuring and negotiating and implementing significant domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, project finance transactions, securities offerings, private equity deals, financings and securitized loan transactions. He has also represented clients in numerous tax controversy disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and with various state and local tax authorities.

During the last several years, Mr. Cavanagh has lectured at numerous conferences and seminars and has written extensively on tax issues.  Mr. Cavanagh has been a featured speaker at the prestigious New York University Institute on Federal Taxation for the past fifteen years, served as the 2013 Chair of the 72nd Annual Institute, the 2006 Chair of the 65th Annual Institute and the 1998 Chair of the 57th Annual Institute and is a member of the Institute's Board of Advisors.  Mr. Cavanagh also chaired the 1995 International Bar Association program on "Negotiating Stock Purchase Agreements" (Paris, France) and the 1999 International Bar Association program on "Spin-offs and Split-ups" (Barcelona, Spain).  Mr. Cavanagh's most recent papers and articles include:

Mr. Cavanagh is listed in the Euromoney Guide to the World's Leading Tax Advisors.  Mr. Cavanagh received his law degree from George Washington University and an LL.M. (Taxation) from the New York University School of Law.  Mr. Cavanagh previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Arthur L. Nims, III, who is a Judge on the United States Tax Court.  He is a member of the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
