Thomas C. Newkirk is a partner in Jenner & Block LLP's Washington, DC office. He is Co-Chair of the Firm's Securities Litigation Practice Group.
Since joining Jenner and Block in 2004, Mr. Newkirk has represented some of America's largest companies (including successfully defending General Motors Corporation in a recently settled SEC investigation), chief executive officers, other senior officers, corporate boards, board committees and directors in confidential investigations involving a wide range of issues, including accounting, disclosure, insider trading, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He has defended companies and individuals in class action securities and derivative cases and also represented corporations as plaintiff in securities cases. He has counseled corporate boards and board committees with respect to corporate governance, compliance, conducted internal investigations and defended private class and derivative securities actions.
Mr. Newkirk is AV Peer Review Rated, Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer recognition for ethical standards and legal ability. Mr. Newkirk was recognized in the 2009 edition of Washington DC Super Lawyers for Securities Litigation, Washingtonian Magazine for Securities and he was also chosen by Legal Times as one of seven "Leading Lawyers" in the areas of Internal Investigations/Corporate Governance.
