Steve Shapiro is a partner in the corporate area of Pircher, Nichols & Meeks, a national law firm.

Before that, Steve served as a General Counsel and Corporate Secretary to a number of publicly traded companies, including Cole Taylor Bank, eLoyalty Corporation (a call center consulting company) and First Midwest Bancorp, Inc. He also served as Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary at FMC Technologies, Inc and FMC Corporation.

At each of these companies, Steve was responsible for all securities law, mergers and acquisitions, executive compensation  and corporate governance matters. Steve drafted and negotiated dozens of IT contracts and supervised the privacy function while at eLoyalty, directed human resource legal work and employee benefits work at various companies and oversaw the investor relations and corporate development functions at First Midwest Bancorp.

Steve's legal expertise is in corporate governance, financings, mergers and acquisitions and securities and banking law. He is a nationally recognized speaker on these and other topics, author of numerous articles and founder of several continuing legal education programs. He currently serves as a national Board member for the Society and is a co-chair of its national Small and Mid-Cap Companies.  He is a two-time President of the Chicago Chapter of the Society, currently serves on its Advisory Committee and is the chair of its 2011 Annual Fall Conference.

Steve received the 2010 award Small and Mid-Cap Governance Professional of the Year by Corporate Secretary Magazine and the award for Top General Counsel by First Chair.
