Steven Felderstein is managing partner of his boutique bankruptcy firm that represents public agencies, creditors, debtors, committees and trustees in complex chapter 11 business restructures and chapter 9 municipal insolvencies.
His clients include state agencies and public pension funds, institutional lenders, official creditors' and equity holders' committees, debtors, and creditors in bankruptcy cases. He currently represents the Association of Retired Employees for the City of Stockton in the City of Stockton Chapter 9 case, CalPERS in the Vallejo chapter 9 case and the Lehman Brothers chapter 11 case, and the Creditors' Committee in the law firm chapter 11 case of Heller Erhman. He has served as special bankruptcy counsel to the California Department of Transportation in the South Bay Expressway chapter 11 case, and the California Attorney General in several large Chapter 11 cases, including Pacific Lumber, PG&E, Enron, and Worldcom. He has helped reorganize businesses in many industries, including energy, hospitality (hotel and restaurant), forest products, food processing, publishing, entertainment, real estate development, agriculture, and financial services.
Steven is adjunct professor of law at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, where he teaches the bankruptcy course. He regularly lectures for continuing education providers such as Practising Law Institute, California Continuing Education of the Bar, Lorman Education Services, the National Association of Public Pension Attorneys, and local and regional bar associations. He is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, and past president of the California Bankruptcy Forum, a statewide organization of bankruptcy professionals and judges. His expertise in bankruptcy law has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for over 25 years and in 2011 as Sacramento Lawyer of the Year for Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights. His expertise has also been recognized by Chambers USA, Super Lawyers of Northern California, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in American Law.
After law school, Steven clerked for Chief Judge Thomas J. MacBride of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California.
