Steve Trow has over 30 years of experience in U.S. immigration and citizenship law. He and his firm focus their practice exclusively on this specialty. Steve is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA and the International Who's Who of Business Immigration Lawyers. Steve is particularly interested in the intersection of U.S. immigration law and U.S. tax law. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences for accountants, tax attorneys and private bankers. He advises high net worth clients and their professional advisors on:
 

  • Integrating U.S. immigration planning with U.S. tax planning.
  • Developing U.S. immigration strategies to avoid U.S. tax residency while maintaining the ability to reside and work in the United States.
  • Obtaining U.S. nonimmigrant (temporary) visa status and permanent resident (green card) status.
  • Obtaining U.S. citizenship in order to qualify for the marital exemption from U.S. gift and estate taxes.
  • Identifying "accidental U.S. citizenship" resulting from birth abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or other circumstances.
  • Voluntarily surrendering U.S. permanent resident status or U.S. citizenship.
  • Obtaining citizenship in other countries through investment, without need for residence there.
  • Using the EB-5 Immigrant Investor program to raise capital for U.S. businesses.

     

Steve and his firm handle the full range of immigration applications for employers, investors and professionals, including:

  • Temporary work visas:  E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, H-3, J-1, L-1A, L-1B and TN, as well as O and P visas for athletes and entertainers and R-1 visas for religious workers.
  • Labor certification under the Department of Labor's PERM program, and EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions based on PERM approvals.
  • Green card alternatives to PERM, including EB-1 extraordinary ability, outstanding professor and multinational manager, EB-2 national interest waiver, and EB-5 immigrant investor.
  • Family-based immigration, naturalization, and other applications for immigration benefits.
  • Corporate immigration policies, I-9 compliance and audits.


Steve received his J.D. degree with honors in 1978 from Cornell Law School, where he served on the Board of Editors of the Cornell Law Review. He earned his B.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado in 1975. 

Steve is a founding member of the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers (www.abil.com), which has over 1,000 immigration professionals in over 50 countries worldwide. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
