Sander Bak

Sander Bak is a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and a member of the firm's Litigation & Arbitration Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

Mr. Bak has experience in a wide range of commercial litigation matters, with a concentration in disputes involving international law issues. Among the notable international law matters that he has handled are:

• Wilson v. Eckhaus -- Represented a satellite imaging company based in Israel and succeeded on several motions to dismiss the lawsuits on grounds of forum non conveniens. 
• Abney v. Sen -- Represented a foreign head of state and convinced plaintiffs to voluntarily terminate their lawsuit against the Prime Minister.  
• Cuellar v. Joyce -- In a pro bono representation, helped reunite a Panamanian citizen with her abducted daughter through application of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. 
• Deirmenjian v. Deutsche Bank AG - Convinced a federal court that a California statute extending the statute of limitations for certain wartime claims was unconstitutional.
• Stutts v. De Dietrich Group - Successfully defended several financial institutions from claims of international law violations based on their provision of letters of credit to a foreign regime. 

In addition to his experience with international law matters, Mr. Bak has handled numerous securities law litigations and was recently cited by Benchmark Litigation for his securities law expertise. He has also handled several bankruptcy-related litigations as well as high-profile trust and estate matters. Mr. Bak was an associate at Cravath, Swaine and Moore from 1998 to 2002.


Recognition & Accomplishments

Mr. Bak has authored more than a dozen articles and client alerts on international law and securities litigation issues. He has also lectured frequently on litigation-related issues. He is a member of the Federal Courts Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
