Bob Hamilton has served over 40 years in the consumer products industry - the last 35 years at Amway Corporation. Throughout much of his career, he has been involved as a scientist and group leader in the development of consumer products especially detergents, cleaners and specialty chemical formulations. However, since the early 1980's, he has also been actively involved in providing advice and participating in formal programs that contribute to science based public policy. Since 2000, he has been Regulatory Policy Director for Amway.
Regulatory policy is an increasingly important component of company planning and government decision-making. Since technical regulatory decisions require a wide spectrum of science expertise, scientists within the government greatly rely upon scientists in academia and industry to assist in achieving a consensus opinion on the best available technical information to support this science policy. Bob has provided technology advice to industry trade associations and standards setting committees and has served on science advisory committees for state and federal government. The technology areas included designating products as environmentally preferable, groundwater protection programs, air quality issues, consumer label comprehension, ultimate environmental fate and effects of consumer products, and life cycle management issues.
