Robert Neis is currently the Deputy Benefits Tax Counsel in the Office of the Benefits Tax Counsel within the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department. Mr. Neis joined the Treasury Department in June of 2012 as an Associate Benefits Tax Counsel and works on a variety of employee benefits issues, including executive compensation, qualified retirement plans, health care and fringe benefits.

Mr. Neis was previously a partner in the tax group in the Atlanta office of Sutherland. His practice focused primarily on executive compensation matters, but he also advised clients on the tax and labor aspects of qualified plans, welfare plans and fringe benefits. Much of his practice involved advising clients on these issues in mergers, acquisitions and other transactions.

Mr. Neis received his J.D. from Cornell Law School, where he was the editor-in-chief of the Cornell Law Review, and his B.A from Middlebury College.
