Richard C. Cohan is senior vice president and associate general counsel for Aviva USA and is responsible for the legal support of Aviva's insurance operations. In that position, Mr. Cohan provides support and advice to sales and distribution, insurance administration and product management, while also managing the legal aspects associated with the marketing organization and agency-related matters.
Mr. Cohan recently served as interim general counsel for Aviva USA. In this role, he provided leadership for all of the company's legal and compliance functions.
Since joining the company in 2003, he has held various leadership roles within the legal department. In addition to his current role, he has served as senior vice president and general counsel of AmerUs Life Insurance Company, and vice president and assistant general counsel of AmerUs Group.
Mr. Cohan has more than 15 years experience as an attorney - both in corporate and private practice. Prior to joining the organization, he was national managing director, mergers and acquisitions, for Centerprise Advisors, Inc. He has also been an attorney at the law firms of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and Katten Muchin Rosenman. In addition, he was an accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Cohan graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from the University of Pennsylvania. He earned a juris doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.
