Rebecca Matthias is the Senior Corporate Counsel for Privacy and Data Protection at VMware. Based in Palo Alto, VMware is the global leader in virtualization and cloud infrastructure, delivering solutions to over 99% of Fortune 1000 and 97% of Fortune Global 500 companies. Rebecca is responsible for developing and administering VMware's privacy program, practices and initiatives. Prior to joining VMware, Rebecca handled compliance matters, including privacy, for VeriSign. She also worked for VeriSign as a product attorney, advising on marketing and product development. Before moving in-house, Rebecca was a senior associate for Coudert Brothers in Kazakhstan, Russia, London and Washington, D.C. At Coudert Brothers she provided advice on international corporate transactional, IP, compliance and telecoms matters. She speaks Russian and enjoys travel and Central Asian history. Rebecca received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was on the Editorial Board of the Virginia Journal of International Law. She earned her B.A. in Russian Studies from the University of Virginia, and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa.
