Raj Tanden

Raj Tanden is a Member in the Corporate & Securities and Tax Sections in the Los Angeles and San Diego offices. Raj leads our West Coast tax practice and is a senior member of the Private Equity team.

Raj is also Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tax Section Investment Management Committee and has global experience in investment management transactions, including the formation of, and investments by, public and private investment funds. He represents clients across a wide range of transactions on U.S. and global matters including:
 

• Mergers and acquisitions
• Capital markets and financial instruments Joint ventures
• Divestitures and spin-offs
• Due diligence, including tax due diligence Bankruptcy and restructurings
• Real estate (including REITs, real estate funds, joint ventures, financing and like-kind exchanges)
• Tax controversies
• Executive compensation
• State and local tax (including California property tax)

Raj specializes in REITS, regulated investment funds (RICs, including mutual funds, closed-end funds and business development companies), S corporations and tax partnerships, including limited liability companies.

In addition to his role as Chair of the ABA Tax Investment Management Committee, Raj is a member of the Executive Committee of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law (USC) Tax Institute and chairs its Partnerships/Real Estate Subcommittee. He is also a member of the Tax Advisory Group of the Investment Company Institute (ICI) and the National Associations of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) and its Government Relations Committee and Federal Tax Subcommittee.
Raj has been selected as a leading tax lawyer by Best Lawyers in America and recognized by Law & Politics, publishers of the "Southern California Super Lawyers."

His speaking engagements include conferences for NAREIT, the ICI, the Practicing Law Institute, and the USC Tax Institute, in addition to regularly speaking at the ABA Tax Section meetings.
