Peter Farrell

Peter Farrell is a Senior Counsel and Supervisor in the Special Federal Litigation Division of the New York City Law Department. He defends the City of New York and its municipal employees in federal court against individual and class action lawsuits brought pursuant to 42 U.S.C. §1983 alleging violations of the United States Constitution and pendent state law claims.

Mr. Farrell has worked at the NYC Law Department for the past 10 years and is currently leading the City's defense in the litigation arising out of the 2004 Republican National Convention. He also represents the City in the Handschu case involving a consent decree that governs the police department's investigation of political activity. Mr. Farrell was also part of the team that successfully defended the constitutionality of the subway bag search program in the case of MacWade v. City.  

He graduated cum laude from the SUNY Buffalo Law School in 1990 where he was a member of the Buffalo Law Review and began his career at Lord Day and Lord, Barrett Smith and subsequently worked at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP before joining the NYC Law Department.
