Paul Davis is a partner in the firm’s Business Law Department and a member of its Intellectual Property and Technology Companies Groups. Mr. Davis has a strong patent background in medical devices, electrical engineering, photonics, networking, e-commerce and telecommunication industries focusing primarily on U.S., international and national phase patent prosecution and strategic counseling services.
He has significant experience in litigating intellectual property issues for information technology companies.
Work for Clients
Mr. Davis has over 25 years of industry experience working in Silicon Valley area technology companies. His experience includes strategic advice on building patent portfolios, drafting and negotiating licensing agreements, technology transfer agreements and non-disclosure and consulting agreements and the management of large, complex patent portfolios.
Mr. Davis’ IP experience with photonics and networking technologies includes optical networking; widereach DWDM systems; regional, metro core and metro access networks; metro core transport layers; dynamic wavelength; provisioning for metro; IP routers; IP routers that control and monitor the optical fabric; and optical devices and components such as tunable lasers, tunable filters, VOAs, AWGs, distributed and discrete Raman amplifiers, Add/Drop multiplexers, optical cross connects, wavelength
converters, wavelength lockers, interleavers, and active and passive fiber optic components. His IP experience with e-commerce includes enterprise software; web-based application infrastructures; webbased configuration tools; web-based architectures; and statistical and predictive modeling for URL traffic.
Prior to joining Goodwin Procter in 2008, Mr. Davis was a partner in the Silicon Valley office of Heller Ehrman, where he chaired the Patents & Trademarks and Life Science Practice Groups.
