Michael Martinez is a partner in Mayer Brown's New York office and a member of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution and White Collar Defense & Compliance practices. Previously, he was the executive assistant US Attorney in the US Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, the office's third-highest ranking position.

Michael's decade-long career with the US Attorney's Office in New Jersey included two terms of duty. From 2000 to 2008, he worked in the office's Appeals Division, Government Fraud Unit, and Securities and Health Care Fraud Unit, then served as acting chief of the Terrorism Unit. During this time, he wrote appellate briefs in more than 50 cases, argued before the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 10 cases, and successfully tried numerous cases, including the case against Walter Forbes, former chairman of Cendant Corporation, which resulted in a 12-year sentence for the largest accounting fraud of the 1990s.

In 2008, Michael joined a prominent firm in New York as a special counsel, representing individuals and corporations in a variety of criminal and civil investigations. In 2010, he returned to the US Attorney's Office, where he was responsible for reorganizing, developing, and managing the office's white collar programs, particularly, the health care fraud, securities fraud, and cybercrime programs. He supervised more than 140 attorneys in all criminal and civil cases brought by the office and coordinated with partner investigative agencies, such as the FBI, HHS, IRS, and the SEC, as well as the US Justice Department's Civil Division and various State Attorney General's Offices.

Earlier in his career, Michael clerked for The Honorable Samuel A. Alito, Jr., in the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
