Melissa Burek
PRESENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Ms. Burek is a founding Partner of Compensation Advisory Partners LLC (CAP) in New York. She has 20 years of experience consulting with Boards and management in all areas of executive and director compensation, including compensation strategy, annual and long-term incentive plan design, performance measurement/reward linkages and regulatory and governance issues.
EXPERIENCE
Melissa has assisted numerous Fortune 200 companies with developing compensation strategy and designing and implementing pay programs that support business objectives and shareholder interests. She has advised companies through the shareholder approval process and assisted companies involved in initial public offerings, restructurings and executive leadership change. Melissa has significant experience in the insurance industry, as well as having worked with public and private companies in manufacturing, consumer products and pharmaceutical industries. Some of her clients have included Chubb, General Motors, Kraft Foods, Motorola Solutions, and SYSCO.
Prior to joining CAP, Melissa was a Principal at Mercer’s Human Capital business for eleven years. While at Mercer, she led the insurance industry segment and numerous Best Practices research efforts. Prior to that, she was a Director in KPMG’s Performance and Compensation Consulting practice. She also worked in Human Resources with the Ford Motor Company.
PUBLICATIONS AND SPEECHES
Melissa has chaired several roundtable sessions and published articles on Best Practices research. She has authored several articles: "2011 Proxy Season – Changing Practices in Executive Compensation" (CAPflash 2011), "SEC Final Rules on Say on Pay and SEC Timing Updates" (CAPflash 2011), "Compensation Consultants and Your Board" (The Corporate Board 2010), (CAPflash 2010), and a chapter on executive pay program assessment in Responsible Executive Compensation for a New Era of Accountability, published by John Wiley & Sons. She is a frequent speaker on executive compensation and has served as a liaison to insurance industry organizations on the topic.
EDUCATION
Melissa received a BBA and MBA from the University of Michigan’s Graduate School of Business Administration. She is a member of the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals and WorldatWork.
