Matthew T. Martens is the Chief Litigation Counsel of the Enforcement Division at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Previously, Mr. Martens was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina, the Chief of Staff to Assistant Attorney General Michael Chertoff in the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, and a litigation associate at Latham & Watkins. Mr. Martens also served as a law clerk to then-Chief Justice William Rehnquist of the U.S. Supreme Court and, before that, to Judge David Sentelle of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Mr. Martens received his J.D. with highest honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his undergraduate degree in accounting with highest honors from Cedarville College. Mr. Martens is also a Certified Public Accountant.
