Mark Whitener is Senior Counsel, Competition Law & Policy at General Electric Company, based in Washington, D.C. From 1993 to 1997 Mark was Deputy Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, where he was responsible for a variety of antitrust enforcement and policy initiatives and helped develop federal antitrust guidelines for mergers, health care, intellectual property and international enforcement. He received the FTC's Distinguished Service Award in 1997. A graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and of Washington University, Mark spent several years in private practice in Washington and London prior to joining the FTC. He has written and spoken on a wide range of antitrust issues, including testimony before Congress and the Antitrust Modernization Commission, and presentations at policy hearings conducted by antitrust authorities in the United States and abroad. Mark is on the Council of the ABA Antitrust Section. He is married and has three children.
