Lee Tien is a senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a non-profit public-interest group based in San Francisco, California.  Founded in 1990, EFF has more than 21,000 contributing members. Tien specializes in free speech, privacy and security issues. He has litigated cases involving the Freedom of Information Act, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and the telecommunications national security letter statute (18 U.S.C. § 2709). His major current policy issue areas include: telecommunications surveillance and privacy; computer and network security; identity management; electronic health records privacy; location privacy; smart grid privacy; and online tracking.  He did his undergraduate work at Stanford University and received his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
