Laura Hoey is a partner at Ropes & Gray LLP in Chicago. She joined the firm’s
Government Enforcement practice in June 2011 after serving four and a half
years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Laura represents a variety of clients in
the health care, pharmaceutical, and dental industries who are facing
government investigations and Congressional inquiries. She directs internal
investigations in all types of government and regulatory compliance matters
including advising clients on potential violations involving health care fraud,
the False Claims Act, the Antikickback Statute, the Food Drug and Cosmetic
Act, and the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
As a federal prosecutor, Laura was the Health Care Fraud Coordinator and
helped organize the health care fraud task force, which included federal and
local law enforcement. Laura also prosecuted several tax fraud and public
corruption cases. She was first chair in five trials, winning convictions in all
five.
Laura is also a member of the firm’s Privacy Task Force, bringing to bear her
experience in prosecuting criminal HIPAA violations.
In 2008, Laura received the Department of Health and Human Services Office
of the Inspector General’s Integrity Award.
Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Laura was an associate with the
firm.
