Kevin T. Baine

Kevin T. Baine is a partner at Williams & Connolly LLP. He began his legal career by serving as a law clerk for Judge Edward Weinfeld of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and then for Thurgood Marshall on the United States Supreme Court.

For over three decades, Mr. Baine has litigated cases raising issues of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion. He has represented many of the country's major media organizations in defamation, invasion of privacy, copyright infringement and other cases throughout the country. He has also served as counsel for numerous churches and religious organizations in free exercise and establishment clause litigation. He has argued several cases in the United States Supreme Court and has filed amicus briefs on behalf of media and religious organizations in numerous others. Mr. Baine has been recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in America ® in the fields of Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, First Amendment Law and Media Law.

Mr. Baine is a member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Chairman of the Board of the St. Albans School of Public Service, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cristo Rey Network, a national network of urban secondary schools serving low-income families. He has served as CoChair of the First Amendment and Media Litigation Committee and Co-Chair of the Resource Development Committee of the ABA's Section of Litigation.
