John W. Ward is an Associate General Counsel at the DuPont Company with responsibility for both the M&A practice team and the Corporate Securities practice team for DuPont Legal. He began his career at DuPont in 1979 in the Finance Department and then moved to a corporate and securities practice in DuPont Legal in 1983 focusing on corporate finance, SEC filings and annual meeting preparation activities. John expanded his practice in the late 1980s to include M&A and then helped form an internal M&A practice team within DuPont Legal during 1994. From 1997 to 2000, he had the opportunity to work on a number of international M&A projects being based in London and working on business development projects for Conoco Inc in Eastern Europe and Turkey, the separation and IPO of Conoco Inc by DuPont, and the acquisition of the Herberts automotive paint business by DuPont. Upon return to Wilmington, John rejoined the DuPont Legal M&A practice team and led a number of major M&A projects for DuPont including the sale of DuPont Pharmaceauticals and the acquisition of ChemFirst Inc. He currently manages an inhouse legal team of six lawyers and four legal assistants and is an active member of the DuPont Legal Global Leadership Team and supporter of the DuPont Legal Model and the DuPont Legal Network.
John received a BA in Accounting from Bowling Green State University in 1976 and a JD from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1979. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Delaware Hospice Inc.
