John Francis Hilson

John Francis Hilson is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. His practice areas include assetbased finance, commercial finance, secured and unsecured finance, loan workouts, letters of credit, interest and usury, and foreclosures. Mr. Hilson represents major financial institutions in the negotiation, documentation, and closing of complex finance transactions. He has written for the Uniform Commercial Code Law Journal and the National Law Journal and has lectured extensively before many groups, including the American Bar Association, the Bank Lending Institute, the Commercial Finance Association, Practising Law Institute, and the Strategic Research Institute.  Admitted to practice in California and Massachusetts, he is a member of the American Law Institute; a Fellow (and former Member of the Board of Regents) of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers; Member of the ABA Uniform Commercial Code Committee; Past President and Member of the Board of Governors (and Member of its Executive Committee) of the Financial Lawyers Conference; and Member of the ABA Commercial Financial Services Committee. He has been selected as a leading banking and finance lawyer by Chambers Global for 2006 (Level 1 Ranking), identified as a leading banking lawyer in Who’s Who Legal, and identified as a highly recommended banking and finance lawyer in Global Counsel 3000.  Mr. Hilson received his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, where he was Comments Editor of the University of Colorado Law Review. He received his B.A. from Boston University.
