Joanne Lendway McMahon is General Electric's Governmental Compliance Leader. Her work focuses on compliance with US federal, state and local laws regarding campaign finance, gifts, lobbying and government procurement. Joanne works closely with GE's litigation, compliance and government relations teams at GE Corporate and with all GE business entities.
In 1989, Joanne became a member of the Illinois state bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She began her legal career in private practice in Chicago, representing national insurers and international reinsurers in complex coverage disputes involving asbestos, pollution and lead paint claims. Joanne has litigated cases in courts across the country, including one of the largest asbestos bankruptcy coverage disputes ever taken to trial. In 2002, Joanne joined GE Reinsurance, specializing in latent injury claims. Her experience with asbestos and latent injury cases helped her provide insight on public policy initiatives, leading to a role with the government relations team working on legal reform matters. In 2009, Joanne was named to her present role as GE's Governmental Compliance Leader.
Joanne has authored numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on compliance issues. She received her undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and her law degree from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois. Joanne resides in the Chicago area with her husband and two sons.
