Jeffrey P. Cunard

Jeffrey P. Cunard is the managing partner of the Washington, D.C., office of Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP, where he provides advice on copyright, information technology, communications, and digital media, including copy protection and electronic commerce. Mr. Cunard represents copyright owners, users, and manufacturers of information technology and consumer electronics products, and advises on telecommunications matters. He speaks widely and is the author of various articles on intellectual property and communications law. Among his other publications are the chapters on “Copyright,” “Obscenity and Indecency,” and “Trademark and Unfair Competition Issues” in Internet and Online Law (K. Stuckey, ed., Law Journal Seminars-Press 1996–2007), which he coauthors with others at the firm; “Property of the Mind: Software and the Law,” in The Future of Software (MIT Press 1995); and two books on international communications law, From Telecommunications to Electronic Services (1986) and The Telecom Mosaic (1988), both published by Butterworths. Mr. Cunard joined Debevoise & Plimpton in 1983 and became a partner in 1989. He received a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1977 and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1980.
