JAMES R. FIGLIULO is a trial lawyer with over 30 years of experience in business related litigation. He has extensive experience in jury and bench trials and arbitrations in federal and state courts representing clients in a wide variety of complex business disputes. He also has substantial appellate experience, including oral arguments before the Supreme Court of the United States and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Figliulo is a founding partner in Figliulo & Silverman, P.C., an 18 lawyer litigation firm based in Chicago. Figliulo & Silverman, P.C. is recognized in Martindale Hubbell's Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers.
Mr. Figliulo served as President of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association in 2005-06. He also recently served as Co-Chair of the Seventh Circuit American JUlY Project with Chief Judge James F. Holderman of the Northern District of Illinois and Seventh Circuit Judge Diane S. Sykes. Mr. Figliulo also recently served as Chairman of the Federal Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel. He is also presently serving as a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Rilles Committee.
Mr. Figliillo is a Fellow of the The American College of Trial Lawyers and served as Chairman of its State Committee for Upstate Illinois in 2007-2009. He also is a founder, past president, and Master of the Bench for the Chicago Inn of Court, which is part of the American Inns of Court, an organization that promotes professionalism, excellence, ethics and civility among trial lawyers and judges.
Mr. Figliulo is also among a handful of Chicago area trial lawyers who have been included in Best Lawyers in America for more than ten years and recognized in three categories: "Bet-the-Company Litigation"; "Business Litigation"; and "Legal Malpractice." He has also been identified as one of the top 100 "Superlawyers" in Illinois. He is also included among the Leading Lawyers in Illinois in business litigation. Mr. Figliulo is an active member of the American Bar Association (Section of Litigation), Seventh Circuit Bar Association (Past President), the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association (Member: Nominating Committee, 2008).
Mr. Figliulo is a co-editor and author of a recently published book entitled "Your Witness", which is collection of courtroom stories and lessons about cross-examination by 50 of Chicago's top trial lawyers, with a foreword by noted author and trial lawyer Scott Turow. "Your Witness" has drawn high praise from prominent members of tlle legal profession and the community at large. Mr. Figliulo has also written articles for various legal publications and journals and has presented seminars concerning trial practice and advocacy. Mr. Figliulo received his JD from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1974. He attended St. Ignatius High School in Chicago and obtained his BA from St. Mary's College in Minnesota.
Mr. Figliulo's corporate clients have included, among others, KPMG LLP, Koch Industries, Walsh Construction Company, the Private Bank, and McDonald's Corporation. His clients also include many law firms and lawyers in professional liability matters and partnership disputes.
