Partner, Technology Transactions
Mr. Handy's practice focuses on technology-based transactions, including
intellectual property acquisitions and licensing strategies for life sciences and
technology companies.
His representative transactions include: development, collaboration, license and
material transfer agreements for a broad range of life science technologies
including antibody, protein expression/modulation, gene therapy, genomics,
proteomics and bioinformatics technologies; software, telecommunications and IT
agreements, including technology development, licensing and marketing
agreements; clinical trial agreements; and supply, distribution, sales representative
and other supply-side agreements for biopharmaceuticals, diagnostic, medical
device, telecommunications and software products.
During law school, Mr. Handy was the Associate Editor for the Law Review. While
at the University of California at San Diego, he was the recipient of the NASA
Specialized Center of Research and Training in Exobiology Graduate Fellowship.
In 2012, Intellectual Asset Management magazine named Mr. Handy to the IAM
Patent 1000: The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.
Prior to joining Fenwick & West, Mr. Handy was a partner and head of the
Southern California Life Sciences transactional practice for DLA Piper LLP, and
prior to that, an attorney at Morrison & Foerster, LLP and Gray Cary Ware &
Freidenrich LLP
