Isabel Costa Carvalho is a partner with the Sao Paulo, Brazil office of Clifford Chance. She
previously practiced for six years in the Clifford Chance London office in the area of
international capital markets, with a focus on Latin America, before being transferred to Sao
Paulo to assist in the opening of the office in Brazil. Ms Carvalho heads the international
capital markets practice in Brazil. She has acted in various international capital markets
transactions, as well as banking and M&A transactions, primarily linked to Brazilian
companies but also in Latin America.
Ms Carvalho's area of specialization is capital markets, where she has advised banks and
issuers alike, in relation to both equity and debt offerings, including high yield bonds,
structured notes and setting up of ADR programs. Her experience includes:
- Share offerings of the following companies: Bompreco, Petrobras, Brasil Telecom, ALL, Grendene, Localiza, TAM, OHL, Cyrela Brazil Realty, Tractebel, Duratex, Company, Banco do Brasil, M. - Advised Brazilian companies in connection to U.S. regulatory requirements and corporate governance practices, including setting up FCPA programs involving the following companies: Petrobras, Eletrobras, Vale, Sabesp, Safra, and TAM.
Ms. Carvalho was recently recognized as a Band 1 international capital markets lawyer
practicing in Brazil by Chambers and Partners, and was also included in the 2013 edition of
Best Lawyers Brazil for capital markets.
Ms. Carvalho graduated from the Law School of the
Catholic University of Sao Paulo, Brazil with a specialisation in Financial Law. She obtained
her LLM from the University of London.
